Taco Soup

One of my favorite things about fall is a nice bowl of hot soup! Yum! There's something so comforting about soup, isn't there? A favorite around here is Taco Soup! I made it a couple of nights ago, so I thought I'd share how I make it. What's great about this soup is that the leftovers are just as good, if not better, because the flavor is more intense!

1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
1 1.25-oz. packet taco seasoning (about 1/4 c.)
3 c. water, divided
2 28-oz. cans diced tomatoes
1 15-oz. can tomato sauce
2 15-oz. cans kidney beans, drained, if you'd like.
I throw in some frozen corn, as well.

Brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic in a soup pot. When brown, add the taco seasoning and 1 c. water. Add the remaining ingredients, then, cover and reduce heat. Simmer for at least 15 minutes. Serve with desired toppings. We like to do cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips, but this time I only had the chips on hand. Still great!

Slow Cooker Instructions: After browning the meat, place all the ingredients into a slow cooker and cook on low for about 6-8 hours.

Freezes very well, too! This makes a lot for my family, so we usually have to freeze some and have it for lunch a few times, too.

I'm back!

We're back from our Kansas City trip to see my baby brother get married!
It was a beautiful wedding and we had a wonderful time!
So, now I can share the present I made for my brother and SIL!

I asked my brother and SIL to both send me 20 things that they loved about each other, WITHOUT letting the other one see. I alternated responses in the exact order they gave them to me. It's amazing how close their answers were in almost the same order, too! I formed the words into a heart shape. Perhaps there is an easy way to do this, but I didn't know it. This was a pain in the butt. Totally worth it though, they loved it!

See, they loved it! They were amazed by how similar their answers were, too!

More to come from our trip in the next few days.

Wedding Hair Clips

My brother is getting married on Saturday! I still find this hard to believe. He's my baby brother (I'm the oldest) and he will always be 12 in my mind. Although, he turned 23 a couple months ago. He has been with his fiance Katie, for over two years now. He has taken on the role of father for her daughter, as well. I'm very excited and happy for their family!
Our Mom is flying down from Alaska in two days, to see my brother get married. She is coming here,to us, and then we will drive the 3 hours to Kansas City for the wedding. I'm very excited. On Thursday night we will be staying at the Great Wolf Lodge! We were suppose to go back in July but with the flooding we decided to wait and pushed our reservations to October. Landon is super excited, too!

Katie asked me to make her daughter a hair piece similar to Emmelyn's for the wedding, so I thought I'd share. She's really into Tinkerbell and is going to be wearing green wings down the aisle so I made her hair clip match.

I also made myself one and fixed Emmelyn's. I didn't like how many feathers were on it before, so I removed some.
This pink and white one is Emmelyn's

These flowers are SO easy to make. I really enjoyed them. Maybe after we move to DC (in March) I will be able to have a craft space and be able to make more fun stuff, more often!

New Headband

My baby brother is getting married next weekend! I've had Emmelyn's dressed picked out for a long while now, but had no idea what to accessorize it with! Until recently!

What do you think? I think it's pretty good for my first time making both of these kinds of flowers! Maybe I'll put up a tutorial later, if I make more likes these.  Her headpiece will be on a white lace headband. I'm just waiting to get that...

I think I might make myself something similar, but on a smaller scale, for my hair. To clip up some hair. I'll have pictures of her wearing it after the wedding!

Oh best part? It cost me NOTHING! I already had all of this on hand!

Teeth and More!

It's been a little bit since I've updated my blog... or read other people's!
(I have a lot to catch up on)
Anyway, thought I'd stop by and update. About two weeks ago, Emmelyn got her first tooth!!! And a week or so later she got the second.

Here she is enjoying her first Mum Mums and you can see her teeth. At this point they had just started above the surface!

This picture just cracks me up!! She liked that thing so much!

My beautiful girl and me!

We went to a friend's daughter's first birthday and these were their party favors! They're too cute!

Went to go check on Landon and he was reading ON his bookshelf!
(Most of his books are in the guestroom on a bookshelf, so they aren't ruined)

Well, not much else that I can think of to update. I think Emmelyn is going to have some top teeth soon. Also, her bottom teeth are crooked... I blame her Dad!
I think I am going to try my hand at making a pumpkin pie from scratch. I've never pureed my own pumpkin. I don't even know if I've ever made my own crust before. Perhaps with my mom...

Halloween Jars

On Saturday, Landon and I decided to do some Halloween crafts! We took out the Mod Podge and tissue paper and got to work!
He lost interest after we finished the first one and began coloring instead.

It was a fun and easy craft!
