Fabric Flowers

I have been seeing these "Rosette Flowers" all over the place lately and have been wanting to buy some for Emmelyn, but people charge SO much! I decided to watch a YouTube tutorial video on how to do it myself. I have a ton of fabric just sitting around in storage and I finally put it to good use! I made the little orange one first and I think it turned out pretty good. It's hard to see in this little picture, though. I love the blue one, the colors are neat! I decided to get a little "fancy" with the maroon one and I have to say, I LOVE IT!

All you do is cut a long strip of fabric into a strip that is about 2 inches thick and twist it around itself. Look up a video, it is insanely easy!

Now you're probably wondering what the pink flower is? It's just a fabric flower, I don't know if it has a different name. For this sort of flower, you need a 4 inch wide piece of fabric. I used about two feet in length, I'd say.

Fold it in half and start threading down the outside edge.

When you're done, it'll look like this. Keep the string attached.

Pull the string and it will start to form this:

Shape it into your flower and stitch the fabric in place in the back and glue a clip on. Add an embellishment, if you'd like!

Clip the flower onto a headband or directly into your hair. Ta-Da. Super cute right?

My GORGEOUS model!

Today, I was fortunate enough to catch Emmelyn's first roll on camera! Grateful, too! Michael was at work and without all this wonderful technology we have now-a-days, he would have missed it! And yay for me being fast on my toes with the camera. Haha

She tried to roll over before I captured this moment, but her arm was stuck behind her. She did roll on to her back, just with her arm under her. So, I knew she was on to something and ran for the camera! Poor Michael had just left to work about 15 minutes before she did this, too. Anyway, enjoy the video!

P.S. I am certain that Landon did not roll over until 4 1/2 months and he was walking at 10! What do we have in store for us with her?!

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that we were going to go camping this month. Well, we did as planned… except, it was 115 degrees that day. On top of that, the cabin wasn’t exactly what I expected. The cabin was really nice, actually, but I asked the lady on the phone if there was a fire pit to roast marshmallows and hotdogs, she said, “yes.” There wasn’t! There was a BBQ stand thing that was about waist level, though. Not exactly what I had in mind. Michael tried to get a fire going for dinner, but it wasn’t working out too well. First off, we forgot the lighter fluid so he was trying to light the fire without it and second, with it being so hot outside it was just getting tiresome. I told him that it wasn’t a big deal and we would just nuke the hotdogs. After dinner we were going to make microwaved s’mores when I realized when Michael said he grabbed the s’mores stuff… he forgot the marshmallows. Landon was a little bummed but liked the “s’mores” anyway! We made the best of our time in the cabin and tried to play cards together, but Landon quickly got bored with that. I was going to bring some board games with us, but I figured cards should be enough.
Honestly, we ended up watching cartoons as a family on the couch for the rest of the evening and turned into bed, early. We still had a great time hanging out as a family, though!
Before we went camping we had some time to kill and we headed to Linoma Beach to swim! Landon had a ton of fun there, despite the heat. The nice thing about the weather being so hot was that the water was at a very nice and comfortable temperature! Even Emmelyn enjoyed being in the water for a little bit! She was happy until I tried to get her to feel the sand. Speaking of the sand, it was on fire! It was like torture walking to the water! Don’t worry; I had her feel the wet sand! The boys had a great time in the water while Emmelyn and I just chilled in the shade after she got upset. As I was packing up the diaper bag I ended up accidently kicking the wooden umbrella stand and got a huge splinter in my big toe! No fun…

We will give camping another shot, but next time, we’ll go in the fall when it won’t be too hot to hike and be around a fire. Also, maybe somewhere where we can actually roast hotdogs and fish like when I was a kid! Some of my best summer memories were going to the river to fish and we’d roast hot dogs and marshmallows! I never caught a fish but I always had fun with my brothers, mom and step dad!

Our baby girl is now three months old! She is simply amazing and lights up my world. She loves to smile, squeal with excitement and talk to her Momma! I couldn’t imagine my life without her. I thought I was happy with just one kid… and I was… but it’s so much better with her in it! By the way, she’s moving to her crib tonight. I’m a little sad about this but I know she’ll be fine. I on the other hand, might not make it. ; )
Michael is taking some much needed leave next week. I can’t wait! He’ll be off for about two weeks and we have some exciting plans (camping) and some not so exciting plans (cleaning/organizing)! We’ve rented a cabin not too far away and plan to hit a local beach before check-in. So exciting! (I know weird right… a beach in the middle of Nebraska?) I’m mostly excited for all the photo-ops but I know Landon will have a blast! He saw a “Bubble Guppies” episode a few months back about camping and has been asking to go since. We plan to roast marshmallows and hot dogs, go hiking, swimming and fishing if they have it!
Other than that, no real plans. But, we do plan to go through a bunch of things to sell. In case we PCS in the spring (Pending Michael’s orders).

Our Anniversary!

Six years ago, I married my best friend. We’ve had our ups and downs but I wouldn’t trade anything for our life. In the six years that we have been married; we have had two gorgeous children, lived in two (soon to be three) different states, three homes, traveled to and from Texas and Alaska. We have made ourselves a wonderful life.
The day of our anniversary (1st) we went out to breakfast and around town as a family. That evening we put our fondue pot to good use and had chocolate and fruit… What’s better than that? Yum! On Saturday we went to a movie while our neighbor watched our children. We saw “Bad Teachers” and honestly it wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. The company was good, though.

Landon was adorable on our anniversary, he kept saying, “our” anniversary, as in his too. I thought this was sweet and Michael corrected him and tried to explain that it was Mommy and Daddy’s anniversary. Then I thought about it. Why can’t it be our anniversary? It is, after all, the day our family came to be. So, we went with it. It was our family’s sixth anniversary and that’s special!

On a side note, we’ve been cloth diapering for a while now. Well, we were supposed to visit my brother over the weekend a couple weekends back and we had bought some disposable diapers. I needed to use them up, because we weren’t going and she would outgrow size 1 diapers in the near future, so, we used them for a few days. Now, when I was researching cloth diapers, I had read some people complaining about disposables and how strong they smell when soiled after you’ve gotten use to cloth; I thought that was crazy. I totally get it now! Strange, but those few days in disposables made me nauseated. In a way, I am glad because it backs up my goal of cloth diapering our daughter. I really do love it… yup even the cleaning of the diapers isn’t too bad.
