Busy day of sewing, today. I decided to make Landon some throw pillows to go with his quilt. They're sort of like floor pillows, they're kind of big! They turned out great though and only took me about 30 minutes to finish!
I really think he'll love them!
Then back in 2008 I had bought this soft book fabric for the Rodolph story. I intended on making it for Landon, but didn't get around to it. So, I made it for Emmelyn! I added a bell into the back cover so it jingles! :)
This middle seam broke my needle! But, I was just happy it was able to go through 9 layers of thick fabric!
It turned out cute!
What have you all been up to? I am so excited for Christmas, I am totally done with making our gifts! I will have a post later for my husband's gift!
I did it! I finally finished Landon's Christmas quilt! I finished Emmelyn's quilt, almost a month ago, but then my sewing machine broke. Sad face! I got a new one over Black Friday, though and finally got around to finishing Landon's quilt. I had to work on this one during school hours!
I really love the way it turned out. I did have an "oops" moment. The top yellow square was suppose to be in the other corner. But, I know Landon won't care! Other than that, I had no mistakes! I am getting better at this quilting thing!
I really can NOT wait to see his face when he gets this quilt! He's going to LOVE IT!!!!
And as a reward, I made myself to a delicious mug of caramel hot cocoa! Yum!
Oh man, have I told you how much I LOVE Pinterest, sometimes?! There are amazing ideas everywhere, right at your finger tips! I found something smiliar to my latest project on there and thought I would share it!
First I went to a hardware store and bought an unfinished oak cupboard door.
Then I painted the door front white and let it dry.
Next, I added stain to the door and wiped it off. This was my first time using the stuff, I really love how it looks. While I was waiting for this all to dry, I painted my knobs a deep red color. I free handed the words onto the door with the same color I used on the knobs. I am not 100% happy with the way that turned out. I will probably repaint it before the next Christmas so I can rewrite the letters. But for now, it works!
I Gorilla Glued the knobs on and added two hooks to the back for hanging and voila! Here's the finished project...
It looks so much better in person, but I really do love it! I think I will use a stencil on the words next time and center it a little better.
Here is another fast project I did recently. It was only fast because I had already wrapped the white yarn around the wreath, months ago. So, I just added the ornaments that can easily be removed so I can do something else with the wreath next year!
What do you think? Simple, huh?
I have a very pretty store bought wreath I love, but it has to hang INside the house because it won't fit between the front door and storm door.
What have you all been crafting, lately? This week, I've been working on Landon's quilt, the front is complete, though!
I saw an idea on Pinterest about wrapping seasonal books that you already own and having the children unwrap them one a night. I thought that was a fantastic idea and set out to do it, too! We, luckily, had 24 (actually more than that) books on hand, winter/Christmas/Religious, you name it!
Isn't she cute?!
Landon is totally loving this, by the way! We read a book every night, but this adds a little mystery to it! We missed the first night, because only have the books were wrapped and I wanted to take the above pictures before I had them start unwrapping. So on night one (Dec 2) we did two books, to catch up!
This was her first time unwrapping a present!
I just love them!
I really love this idea, but let me tell you, I fastly wrapped all of these books, wrapping books=not so fun!
The holidays are well among us and we are excited around here! This is my favorite time of the year! I'm trying to make it extra special for Landon, this year. Hopefully starting a new tradition, as well. We have used our advent calendar for a couple of years now, and Landon loves moving the little candy cane over every day, but this year, I decided to make it extra special by adding activities to do every day! He's loving it!
I haven't filled in everyday with events, just in case something comes up and we we are unable to do a big event. This way, I can fill it in the night before!
On Day 1 we had "Paint Ornaments!" We made these a week or so ago, so we just finished them, that night. This was also Emmelyn's first time painting!
On Day 2, we had "String popcorn and cranberries!" Landon was excited, but quickly lost interest in this activity. First of all, it was hard to string the popcorn, it would just break... so we moved on to popcorn, what sticky mess! Then we went to cereal, which was great.
As you can tell, he didn't even finish the strand before giving up. Oh well, we won't be doing this one again. But, at least I can say that we tried!
Day 3 was "Movie Night" because I had a Girl's Night Out I was hosting. So, Michael and the kids watched a movie upstairs. It was a great night, we did an ornament exchange and game night. Great time, great food, great conversation... you get the idea.
I made my delicious Chocolate Peppermint Cupcakes which were a hit and turned out so cute! First time trying to make the frosting stripped!
And my awesome tortilla roll ups! Everyone brought food, but this is what I made! MmMmmMmm!
What kind of holiday traditions do you have? We have a lot and I just love it!
